Several orders of business, plus: an announcement!
First order of business: I'm at Parenting today bemoaning the fact that I can no longer use "two under two" as an excuse for [fill this blank with any less-than-stellar personality and/or parenting trait]. And then I somehow wandered into child spacing and family size and the Things people Say when your kids are close in age. I am dying to tell you some of the things people said to MY mother, but she reads this blog and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't like that. Sigh. Stupid public website.
Second order of business: Big news! I have a new best friend! But, now that I'm thinking about it, I think I will save my new best friend news for tomorrow. Because New Best Friend has yet to post her pictures And there's a lot to say and once again there was no sleeping last night and this morning I feel like vomit on toast.
So we're just going to move on to the ANNOUNCEMENT part of the post which is I AM GOING TO SPEND A WEEKEND AWAY FROM MY CHILDREN. And! SO CAN YOU!
I'm flying to Sacramento [FLYING. YES.] this fall to hang out with Elizabeth from Princess Nebraska, Jennie from She Likes Purple and Emily from Not That You Asked. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO GO TOO! Right? I am so right. So here are the details:
WHO: Everybody!
WHAT: Escape to Sacramento: A Weekend of Hanging Out With Your Bloggy Friends
WHEN: September 25-27
WHERE: Elizabeth's house in Sacramento where you're welcome to the couch, or the hotel down the street if you're more civilized
WHY: Because we deserve to sleep through the night at least ONCE this year
Email me or one of the other girls if you're interested and want specifics. Not that we have them, but we plan to. Eventually. Right now the plans sort of consist of : Wine.
I am so excited about this. I spent many many days twisting around the idea of leaving my kids for a weekend (we've left Jack plenty of times with my parents, but we haven't left both of them (although we plan to next month! woo!) and I've never hopped on a plane to attend something we are calling an ESCAPE ie: an ESCAPE FROM YOUR FAMILY and ohhhhh that makes me feel GUILTY!) but let me tell you I have snapped out of THAT. I am so so SO excited to meet these girls and hopefully, meet some of YOU. I am doing better at the meeting people thing, I am, but that news is for TOMORROW.
Anyway. Elizabeth is providing the space and the food, if you read her blog, is going to be fabulous. Jennie is providing the hot shoes. Emily will be making the HGTV Drinking Game official. And I will... well, it's already apparent through the dozens of emails we've been sending to each other that I most definitely do NOT bring the party. But I do like wine. I shall, at least, participate enthusiastically.
Think about it, internet friends. Would love to see you there!

I am way excited too. Way.

So I should probably have kids and start commenting on more blogs so I can make friends and come to events like this in the future huh? Have fun!

Maggie, you have singlehandedly ruined my productivity for the rest of the day. I will now spend the rest of the afternoon alternating between thinking things like, "How fun would that be?!" and things like, "But nobody KNOWS me, and what if everyone thinks I'm crazy because I don't drink?!" then back to "That's my birthday weekend even. My golden birthday!" then back to "I'm pretty sure my husband wouldn't think it's nuts, but what about everyone else I know in real life?!"
I guess this is what I get for reading your blog over my lunch hour. *SIGH*

Oh - that weekend sounds like so much fun. You guys will have a blast!
I am a total unknown, so I would feel odd crashing the party. In any event, I will actually be in Vancouver that weekend. Woot! And I will be in Seattle later the following week, so watch for an email asking you: "What fun things can we do in Seattle?".

I WANT TO COME SO BAD! SO SO SO SO BAD!
But I don't know if I can do that as MY baby will only be three months old. I suppose I could bring her, but that seems crazy and not very escape-y. Sob.

I want to come! I'm furious googling flight prices, so we'll have to see if there is any way. It's funny, I've recently started reading both Elizabeth and Emily's blog and I LOVE them! And we all know how much I love YOU, Maggie!

That sounds like SUCH FUN! And even after I sleep through the night uninterrupted, the socializing sounds like fun too!
Am currently in talks with the Hubs about Vacation Plans for 09 anyway...Would love more specifics for planning purposes if you have them.
And I want to see your Perfect Summer Bag - I may be interested in copying you as I'm searching for one as well.
