Where I went last night
Lack of posting today is brought to you by:
and
and
and
the people who invented snark.
I watched (and cried through) the whole thing. It was, as they are saying, a little on the dull side, but I don't like the weepy Thank You Jesus! acceptance speeches anyway. I didn't even like that wussy 'Falling Through' song, but did I cry when they won the Oscar? You bet your pricey foundation garments I did.
Things I liked: Anne Hathaway's dress. And her skin. Oh, to have that skin. Everything about Marion Cotillard. Amy Adams singing that song from the movie I still have not seen. Johnny Depp: YUM. George Clooney: DOUBLE YUM. The Ratatouille guy's thank you speech. Diablo Cody's thank you speech. Tilda Swinton's thank you speech. Hannah Montana making sure to look fifteen and not twenty-five. When Javier Bardem thanked his mom in Spanish.
Things I hated: Cameron Diaz's dress. Did she roll out of bed? And call up Rami to say, "Can you pin up this sheet for me? I just don't feel like getting dressed." When Katherine Heigl told everyone she was nervous. When they didn't let the best song girl give her own thank you. 95% of the montages. The fact that I had seen all of ONE Oscar-nominated movie. Sucks having to be home by six every night, I tell you.
What'd you think? (Because I KNOW YOU PEOPLE, you put the Academy Awards on your calendar, just like me, DON'T LIE.)

I spent most of the night teared up too. I have no idea why, really. I don't particularly care who wins anything at all. But I get all teary when I see how happy they all are when they win.

I liked Katherine Heigl's dress and disliked when she said she was nervous.
I liked Jon Stewart's humor and disliked the way he kept pointing out how boring the show was.
I liked that the Coen brothers won three Oscars so that Scott Rudin was the only one who gave a speech at the end and disliked how he thanked his partner and the camera didn't cut to him as they would have had the partner been a woman.

I freaking love Jon Stewart.
I've never even watched the Oscars before.
But last night I did.
What I noticed was - a heckuva lot of one shoulder dresses. That is sooo 5-10 years ago, right?
I cried a little. Kinda bored. And was annoyed Michael Moore didn't win, because you just KNOW he would've made me super uncomfortable and given Jon a lot of material.
Best Actress had a super cute reaction. Heath Ledger bit made me tear up. Not a bad night, really.

Really? You didn't like Cameron Diaz's dress? I really liked it. But I didn't like her hair. Nor did I like Jennifer Garner's (I just wanted to give her a bobby pin the whole time). And there was someone else with similar hair issues that I couldn't figure out. Anyway, I'm not into the whole fancy dress messy hair scene. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Do you know this is the first Academy Awards I've watched with my husband EVER. Which means I haven't tuned in for the last 4 or 5 years at least. I was proud of him for watching it with me this year.
Yes, I teared up during the pre-award montages. You know, when they show all the women who've won best actress right before they announce this years. But the other montages were terrible. I found it quite obvious that this whole thing was planned during the writer's strike.
So there you go.

I LOVE that you also were obsessively going around to Manolo and the Fug Girls and TWoP! I totally was too!
The only problem was, I had to flip back and forth between the ceremony and the conclusion of Pride and Prejudice on PBS. I love me some Jane Austen!

So I had to watch with my mom, who doesn't know who anybody is, and my dad, who not only doesn't know who anybody is, but also has no clue about fashion (bless his heart for putting up with me). If you had seen Once, you not only would have teared up during Falling Slowly, you would have been outright balling! However, I cry during Cambell Soup commercials, so I'm probably not a good judge of cry-worthyness right now.
