How was my weekend? TOO SHORT
What did Phillip and I do before we had kids?
I had a lot of time (fifty minutes, to be precise) to ponder this question on the massage table. As my masseuse (or practitioner, as they were called at the hotel spa) laid a hot towel across my eyes and softly whispered instructions to stay hydrated over the next twenty-four hours, I concluded that obviously we'd been doing it all wrong. We should have been spending our pre-kid time on massage tables. Or, at the very least, drinking sangria in hotel lounges.
When your only complaint about your Anniversary Weekend was that the sangria was revoltingly sweet, you know you had a good weekend.
Sure, we missed the kids. A little. We woke up at six because we're used to waking up at six, and we called them (twice) and maybe we said things like, "Jack will LOVE this when he's bigger" and "Wouldn't Molly look ADORABLE in that?" But most of the time we were too busy spending obscene amounts of money on food I have only seen the likes of on Top Chef.
(An Aside: I am not really into Food. I have the palate of a first grader. I pick restaurants based more on ambience and prevalence of chocolate on the dessert menu than anything else. Formal restaurants, like the one at our hotel, are wasted on me. AND YET. Every single thing I put in my mouth this weekend was The Best Thing I've Ever Eaten In My Life. Even the amuse bouche (the only amuse bouche, I should note, that I've ever had) which was some kind of cherry stuffed with blue cheese, and I HATE BLUE CHEESE.)
There was a minimal amount of physical exertion (a steep half mile down to the falls and a steeper (because that is totally possible) hike back up, although we were Rather Proud of ourselves for being all "that's IT? we ROCKED THAT" at the end) and I didn't drink half as much wine as planned, on account of babies/nursing/weight loss lowering the Tipsy Threshold. Otherwise we Laid About. Sometimes in a jetted tub with our reading materials (Business Week for him, Dorothy Sayers for me), sometimes asleep in the middle of the day, sometimes on the balcony, sometimes at happy hour and, after we checked out, in a cushy movie theater. We saw 'Up', which I do not recommend if you are on your Anniversary Weekend and would like your eye makeup to stay neatly in place. (PEOPLE. I sobbed through that ENTIRE MOVIIE.)
This is hardly the best picture of our weekend, but it is SO my husband:
"Hey! You go stand over there so I can appease the Asian Tourist inside me with a ninety-seventh picture, but first I will take an incredibly dorky picture of MYSELF with you in the BACKGROUND just because I CAN."
Honestly, you have no idea how many identical pictures (of Phillip, with random people in the background) are taking up valuable space on the hard drive.
After the hotel and the spa and the expensive eats and the weepy movie, we went to the fancy shopping mall and the one and only thing purchased there was a mystery/adventure game for the Wii. Why did my husband make a note of this game in his iPhone when he read about it, and then go to the game store specifically to purchase it, when he's much more of a Mike Tyson's Punch Out kind of guy? Because he wanted to play the Wii with ME. Romantic sigh. (Hey. That's romance in the Cheung household.)
Pretty much everything else I want to say about my weekend belongs over at Hot By Thirty. I may get around to updating that today, since we're going to my inlaws' where there is 1) free and enthusiastic babysitting and 2) numerous quiet areas for writing, by which I mean blog reading and Twitter updating and, when I'm done with that, updating the budget because I'll use any means of procrastination necessary.

Sigh. I love Snoqualmie Falls. And always wanted to stay at the Salish, but never did. This is me, living vicariously through you...
It sounds like an awesome, relaxing, romantic weekend. Happy Anniversary!!

Looks like a lovely weekend! And, you know, half the reason I have a blog is so that one day when I'm all like, what did we DO before we had kids? I can go back and read about it. Good plan, right?

I'm pretty jealous right now. I mean, even if you couldn't hold as much wine as planned, it sounds LOVELY.
And the picture is the best.
And I cried through "Up" too. What an amazing movie!
